A dwelling fire policy will provide protection for the dwelling and its contents, and most companies will offer personal property coverage as an option as well. A properly written dwelling fire policy will cover you for the basics, things like fire, lightning, internal explosions, and smoke, as well as coverage for vandalism, theft, and loss of rental income in the event of a serious loss.

When it comes to your tenants, you’ll want to make sure you have a written agreement that can act as a formal contract to protect you, requiring your tenants to have rental insurance, as that will provide them coverage for their personal property and make sure you’re not on the hook for a potential loss they might cause.
